If you've ever dislocated a shoulder or other joint then you know how painful it can be. For those born with hypermobile joints or collagen disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (POTS) this can be a real and distressingly regular problem.
Not only are those with collagen disorders more prone to accidents but even sitting for long periods can be uncomfortable and exercising or even walking up stairs can be a real challenge as the joints easily move out of place.
Having EDS can also make you more vulnerable to other systemic disorders like Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) involving dizziness and fainting and a disruption to the Autonomic Nervous System.
While Homeopathy cannot claim to cure hypermobility disorders, we do have plenty of remedies that are indicated in dealing with some of the main symptoms. It's always best to consult a homeopath for a tailored programme of treatment, but meanwhile here's a list of the key remedies that you can safely try at home.
You can take the 30c potency of a remedy to see if it helps. Start with one remedy, take it for a few days and then wait a week or so. If you get no result, move on the next on the list.
Dislocation, easy, any joint: Ars, Calc, Carb-an, Chel, Graph, Lyc, Nat-c, Phos. Prun, Rhus-t, Ruta, Sep.
Jaw, easy dislocation: Caust, Petr, Rhus T, Staph
Hip dislocation, spontaneous: Calc, Caust, Coloc, Rhus T, Thuja. Also: Bell, Bry, Calc-f, Kali-c, Nat-m, Lyc, Puls, Rhus-t, Ruta, Sulph, Zinc
Dislocation of the patella: Gelsemium
Dislocation of the ankle: Bry, Carb-an, Led, Med, Nat-ca, Nux-v, Ruta, Sulph
You may also want to look at Tissue Salts which can be taken daily for support. Especially relevant for those with EDS are Calc Fluor and Silica which are designed to balance over (or underlax) fibres and promote the production of healthy collagen. And don't forget to have a look at Mag Phos, the main body salt responsible for all involuntary movements and relaxation that directs the Autonomic Nervous System - ideal for POTS!
If you're suffering from hypermobility issues or other problems then please get in touch or make an appointment. I work internationally via Skype/Zoom and face-to-face in Brixton, London, UK.
